  • 21/07/2011 - LDD wins major renewables contract in the Bay of Liverpool, UK
LDD, an Acteon company, has won a multimillion-pound contract with RWE npower renewables to provide specialist drilling services to help install 160 wind turbine foundations at the Gwynt y Môr wind farm 18 km off the North Wales coast. LDD will commission what is believed to be the world’s largest and most-powerful reverse-circulation drill, and four of its specialist engineers will operate the drill from on board RWE’s installation vessel later this year when the offshore development work begins. The Gwynt y Môr project consists of 160 turbines producing a total of 576 MW of energy, two offshore substations, a large new onshore substation and 11 km of underground cabling. It is a shared investment between partners RWE Innogy, Stadtwerke München GmbH and Siemens. Once fully operational, Gwynt y Môr wind farm is expected to produce energy equivalent to the average annual needs of around 400,000 homes. LDD has been contracted to provide continuous relief drilling services for two years throughout the offshore construction of the Gwynt y Môr wind farm. www.lddrill.com

  • 10/06/2011 - Conductor Installation Services Ltd receives gold award for occupational health and safety
Conductor Installation Services Ltd (CIS), an Acteon company, announced an historic health, safety and environmental (HSE) milestone for the company: six years without a single accident or incident resulting in a lost-time incident (LTI). As a result, CIS received the prestigious Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety 2011 for the second consecutive year from the UK’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). CIS, a member of Acteon’s conductors, risers and flowlines division, provides conductor installation services associated with construction projects carried out in the global oil and gas industry. These services are provided both on- and offshore to, for example, create foundations for new wells, platforms, bridges and jetties. The RoSPA awards criteria include not only accident records, but also the entrant’s overall health and safety management systems and recognise important practices such as strong leadership and workforce involvement. For CIS, this means its personnel exhibit solid teamwork, a high level of safety awareness and implementation of rigorous HSE standards. In recognition of this outstanding achievement, Andy Penman, group managing director of CIS, was presented the award by Eric Clark, RoSPA trustee at the RoSPA Occupational Health & Safety Awards ceremony in Birmingham earlier this month.
